Experiment 21

This is yet another new beginning for me. I have had a couple successful personal blogs in the past, and it has long been my intention to create and maintain a new one. The day to do so has finally arrived. I've started a 21-day experiment to see if I can establish a daily writing habit. My head is full of ideas, and I've dreamed of being a writer since I could dream. But, I've been mired in decades of depression and negative thinking. Now it's time to see if I can put that behind me and become the person I've dreamed of.

Of course, it's sheer urban myth to think that establishing a new habit takes 21 days. My brief internet research reveals that studies have demonstrated an average length of 66 days to grow a new habit. And this period expands or contracts based on the complexity of the habit being grown. I'm willing to start with 21 days, however. 21 days of making myself sit in front of the computer and write. If I can get to 21 days, we'll see what the next step is.

I imagine the majority of my writing will be in this blog or in one of a few other blogs I have. I currently keep a very private journal that I only share with my therapist. I've been keeping that journal for the better part of a year, and I've found it a great way to work out some of the things stuck in my head. I also keep a poetry blog that is currently not shared with anyone at all. My poetry is clumsy and definitely not for sharing at this moment. Finally, I will also be starting a blog for a new game campaign world. This world has been floating around my head for many years now, and it wants to come out. I anticipate writing articles about the history, geography, peoples, cultures, etc. of this world.

In this blog I expect to ramble on about my days and drop in random stories from my past. I can't claim to be the most interesting person in the world, but I hope I have something entertaining to say. Keep your fingers crossed for me!
